摘要:The described process synthesizes a halide-free single-site borane compound product tris( ortho -carboranyl)borane, or B o Cb 3 . B o Cb 3 has Lewis superacid properties. The compounds, B o Cb 3 , are thermally stable, and not reactive towards oxygen, but are sensitive to water. The characteristic high fluoride ion affinity is further translated to the catalytic C-F bond activation reactions of the unactivated alkyl fluorides towards the reduction and C-C bond forming reactions with silanes, and Fridel-Crafts type reactions with arenes. The potential of the synthesized Lewis acid as a catalysis is anticipated.

摘要:A process of preparing an unsaturated alcohol (olefin alcohol), such as, a homo-allylic mono-alcohol or homo-allylic polyol, involving protecting a hydroxy-substituted unsaturated fatty acid or fatty acid ester, such as methyl ricinoleate, derived from a seed oil, to form a hydroxy-protected unsaturated fatty acid or fatty acid ester; homo-metathesizing or cross-metathesizing the hydroxy-protected unsaturated fatty acid or fatty acid ester to produce a product mixture containing a hydroxy-protected unsaturated metathesis product; and deprotecting the hydroxy-protected unsaturated metathesis product under conditions sufficient to prepare the unsaturated alcohol. Preferably, methyl ricinoleate is converted by cross-metathesis or homo-metathesis into the homo-allylic mono-alcohol 1-decene-4-ol or the homo-allylic polyol 9-octadecene-7,12-diol, respectively.

摘要:Disclosed is a silyl thioalkene compound, as a class of organosilicon compounds, represented by the general formula n n R(--CSArâ•?CHSiX.sub.3).sub.n, n n in which the subscript n is 1 or 2, R is, when n is 1, a hydrogen atom or unsubstituted or substituted monovalent hydrocarbon group or, when n is 2, a divalent hydrocarbon group, Ar is an unsubstituted or nucleus-substituted aromatic monovalent aromatic hydrocarbon group and X is a halogen atom, a monovalent hydrocarbon group or hydrocarbyloxy group, having usefulness as an intermediate in the synthesis of various precision organic chemicals. The compound, of which X is a halogen atom X 1 , can be prepared, for example, by the reaction of an alkyne compound of the general formula n n R(--C.tbd.CH).sub.n, n n with a silyl sulfide compound of the general formula n n ArS--SiX.sup.1.sub.3, n n in the presence of a platinum complex catalyst. The compound, of which X is a monovalent hydrocarbon group or a hydrocarbyloxy group, can be derived from the above obtained halogen-containing compoud.
