摘要:The invention relates to the fields of surfactants and green chemistry, more in particular to means and methods for the synthesis of novel surfactants based on readily available and biorenewable building blocks. Provided is a method for the synthesis of a carbohydrate surfactant molecule, comprising the steps of: (i) reacting a fructose-containing saccharide with 3-hydroxy propionitrile under acid conditions to obtain the cyano-intermediate compound cyanoethyl β-fructopyranoside; (ii) hydrogenating the cyano-intermediate compound in the presence of a catalyst to obtain an amine-intermediate compound; and (iii) amidating said amine moiety by contacting the amine-intermediate compound with at least one alkyl ester or glycerol ester of a saturated or unsaturated, optionally substituted, aliphatic C4-C22 carboxylic acid in the presence of a base to obtain a fructose-based surfactant molecule.
