摘要:Topical compositions containing creatine and its precursors and derivatives, are used to improve skin condition and to treat or prevent skin disorders, abnormal lipid peroxidation, reduced cell-cell communication, deficient intracellular DNA synthesis, DNA damage, deficient DNA repair, abnormal post-translational modification of connective tissue components and dandruff. Topical compositions comprising creatine and its precursors and derivatives and optionally electrolytes, polyols, urea and osmolytes are used: (1) to treat or prevent dry skin, to enhance the barrier function of the skin, for treatment, care and prophylaxis of sensitive skin and/or for treatment and prophylaxis of symptoms of a negative change in the physiological homeostasis of normal skin; (2) to treat or prevent inflammatory skin conditions, atopic eczema, polymorphic photodermatitis, psoriasis, vitiligo and sensitive, itching or irritated skin; (3) to treat or prevent abnormal lipid peroxidation; (4) to treat or prevent abnormal ceramide, lipid and energy metabolism of the skin, abnormal transepidermal water loss, reduced skin hydration and moisture content and altered Natural Moisturizing Factor content; (5) to treat or prevent reduced cell-cell communication, deficient intracellular DNA synthesis, DNA damage, reduced endogenous DNA repair, activation of metalloproteinases and/or other proteases or inhibition of corresponding DNA repair mechanisms and abnormal post-translational modification of connective tissue components; (6) to treat or prevent abnormal skin hyaluronic acid and glucosaminoglycan content; and (7) to treat or prevent dandruff of the hair and scalp and skin aging.

摘要:Use of an aqueous or aqueous-alcoholic extract (A) of Bauhinia is claimed to make a composition for cosmetic or pharmaceutical treatment of skin and hair. Use of an aqueous or aqueous-alcoholic extract (A) of Bauhinia is claimed to make a composition for: (a) care, preservation or improvement of the general condition of the skin or hair; (b) prevention and/or inhibition of the aging process for human skin or hair; (c) for promoting healing of wounds; (d) for prevention and/or treatment of skin diseases associated with abnormal keratinization, and (e) for prevention and/or treatment of all malignant or benign growths of the dermis or epidermis. An independent claim is also included for a composition containing (A). ACTIVITY : Dermatological; Vulnerary; Antiseborrheic; Antipsoriatic; Cytostatic; Antiinflammatory; Virucide. MECHANISM OF ACTION : Protein glycosylation inhibitor. In a test, human fibroblasts were cultured in the presence of Vitamin C to stimulate collagen synthesis, then lysed and labeled with tritiated glucose for 15 days, Proteins were removed, extraction and precipitation were carried and the amount of bound glucose measured by liquid scintillation counting. Addition of an aqueous-alcoholic extract of Bauhinia fortificata (0.03 mg/ml), reduced protein glycosylation to 55% of that in a control.

摘要:Modified ceramides are defined, together with their synthesis and compositions comprising them for topical application to human skin, hair and nails. The modified pseudoceramides have a structure: ##STR1## and an approximate summary is that R and R 1 are aliphatic hydrocarbon, A is CH 2 , CHOR 2 , CHâ•?CH or CHOY, and at least one of R 2 , R 3 and R 4 is sulphate, phosphate or similar. The presence of phosphate or sulphate facilitates skin absorption, after which the phosphate or sulphate is removed by enzymes present in vivo.
