In particular, [2-(4-methoxyphenylazo)phenyl]bis(pentafluorophenyl)borane, which is an azobenzene derivative, had a fluorescence quantum yield in a room-temperature solution of 0.76, which was the highest in history. Various investigations on azobenzene derivatives have been made and many synthesis techniques have been established. A fluorescent material is provided which is useful because it has the intact advantage of the variety and simplicity of azobenzene derivative synthesis methods and because of the ease of regulating fluorescence wavelengths, etc. The compounds have excellent properties and are hence expected to be used in various applications.
