摘要:One or more oligomers of an olefin are prepared in the presence of a single-site catalyst. Preferably, the olefin is an α-olefin, and the oligomers are a poly-alpha-olefin (PAO). The PAO so prepared is completely or substantially free of tertiary hydrogen resulting from isomerization. Consequently, the PAO possesses improved biodegradability, improved oxidation resistance, and/or a relatively higher viscosity index. The PAO has many useful applications, such as a component of a lubricant.

摘要:A process for preparing an organic polysulfide polymer, such as polyethylene trisulfide, is provided which comprises contacting a dimercaptan such as 1,2-ethanedithiol with elemental sulfur using a basic catalyst wherein the dimercaptan, elemental sulfur, and basic catalyst are each present in an effective amount to effect the preparation of the organic polysulfide polymer. A process for controlling the molecular weight of an organic polysulfide polymer is also provided which comprises contacting a mercaptan with a dimercaptan and sulfur, in the presence of a basic catalyst, under conditions sufficient to prepare an organic polysulfide polymer.

摘要:A method is provided for the direct synthesis by living cationic polymerization of novel polymeric materials functionalized with desirable nitrogen-containing functional groups such as terminal azido, cyano, carbonylamino, cyanato, thiocyanato or thiocarbonylamino groups. Polymerization and functionalization occur in a substantially simultaneous manner. All necessary reactants for the functionalization are present when polymerization is initiated. The nitrogen-containing functional group is provided as a part of a molecule having a release moiety which is preferably resonance stabilized or a tertiary alkyl type and which acts to aid the nitrogen-containing species in functioning as a leaving group.

The esters are useful as dispersants or detergents in aqueous or hydrocarbon systems or they may be further reacted with amines to produce other useful additives for such systems. Esters of monohydroxy alcohols or monothiols or polyhydroxy alcohols or polythiols may be prepared and used in this invention.
